Emploi-Québec predicts 9,000 jobs will be available in the region by 2015, more than half of which will require vocational or technical training1

The Gaspésie—Îles-de-la-Madeleine region is expected to experience considerable job growth in the upcoming years. In some sectors, such as administration, health, sales and service, it is predicted that there will be more positions available than job seekers. Competition for these positions will thus be weak.

Also in the same region, there are 44 occupations in high demand and many of them require a diploma of vocational or technical training!2

Statistics for vocational training in secondary schools3

  • The placement rate for holders of a Diploma of Vocational Studies (D.V.S.) has been continually increasing since 1999.
  • Among employed people, 87% work full time (30 hours per week or more) after earning a D.V.S. and 85% do so after earning an Attestation of Vocational Specialization (A.V.S.).
  • Among holders of a D.V.S. and A.V.S. who work full time, nearly three-quarters consider that their work is related to their training.
  • The employment rate of people who hold a D.V.S. is higher than that of the general Québec population aged 15 and older.

Statistics for collegial technical training4

  • Among people holding a Diploma of College Studies (D.C.S.) who graduated in 2004-2005 and who are on the job market, 92.8% are employed.
  • Among them, 85% have a full-time job (30 hours per week or more).
  • In the Gaspésie and the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, 96.2 % of diploma holders who work full time have a job that is related to their training.
  • The unemployment rate of people age 24 or younger with a diploma has decreased from 5.6% in 2002 to 4.4% in 2006.
